Victorinox AG was founded by Karl Elsener in 1884. The company is currently run by the fifth generation of the Elsener family. The Swiss Army received the first batch of knives from Victorinox in 1891. The officer's knife was patented in 1897, 25 years after the factory was founded. In 1909, the Swiss government authorized the installation of the Swiss cross on the handle of the knife to distinguish the army knife as a high-quality Swiss product from fakes. Today, the Swiss cross has become a symbol of the company and a global brand. All Victorinox knives have a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
